Recriminations
The thing you don't realize about these Blog things is that they are FOREVER! (ok, they're editable, but that's not really fair, is it?)
Yesterday I posted a comment to B-i-L Doug's Blog (I wish I knew how to link to the comment here - Doug?) and mentioned something about "putting up" with my wife. YIKES! That didn't go over well, let me tell you. I assumed that she is 100% comfortable and confident with my love for her and that she is completely cognizent of the fact that my life didn't really begin until I met her.
Well, I still believe that to be true, but in retrospect, that wasn't really the point. I think she was upset because the posting that went out to the universe (or at least the universe of those who read D's blog) simply saw my first and only (thus far) mention of my wife in a negative light. It was supposed to be funny - in fact, it was crass and uncaring.
I guess the point is - you can never be too sensitive when it comes to the ones you truly love. Callousness and disinterest can be saved for all them OTHER peoples - the ones that pass you on the street without saying "Howdy," or that give dirty looks or give you the middle finger salute when you change lanes in front of them. However, whether in print, or in person, or otherwise, your loved ones deserve every consideration.
I'm sorry honey. "Putting up" with you has been the best thing that ever happened to me.

For some reason, I've had to start giving small tutoring lessons on HTML when I started my blog. (OK, in truth, this is the second one.)
First things first: links.
If you want to post a link to someone else's blog or a specific blog post, you need to know the address. The address looks something like this:
http://dbmurata.blogspot.comor
http://dbmurata.blogspot.com/2004/09/all-that-and-bag-of-chips.htmlor even
http://dbmurata.blogspot.com/2004/09/all-that-and-bag-of-chips.html#commentsTo setup a link, you use an HTML tag called an anchor tag. The format looks like this:
<a href="THE ADDRESS">THE NAME OF THE SITE</a>
So if you want to link to my blog, it would look like this:
<a href="http://dbmurata.blogspot.com">The Blog of Doug</a>
or for a more precise link, try this:
<a href="http://dbmurata.blogspot.com/2004/09/all-that-and-bag-of-chips.html">Doug's post called "All That And A Bag Of Chips"</a>
or, to link to, say, Google:
<a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a>
You just type that into your blog post or comment, and all the readers see is: Google.
The second thing is (and I'll probably write up a post about it) you do have to realize that your content is going to be read by others. You can click a button to get a random Blogger blog and read the blogs of others, and they can do the same to you. Friends and family will probably end up reading your blog. Complete strangers will probably end up reading your blog. It's possible to edit the posts, and it's possible to completely delete any comments that people may have left on your blog (BTW, if you want me to remove your comment due to it's "callous" nature, all you have to do is ask), but people can still get to it before you make your changes. You just have to be aware that these things can happen. However, on that same note, your readers should probably take whatever you say with a grain of salt. I try to assume that whatever anyone says about me is just an attempt at humor unless I have a good reason to believe that they would want to be hurtful. It's much safer to assume that the Internet is one big joke and we should all laugh at it. There was a story in the news a while back about a 12 year old Japanese girl who had heard that a classmate said something bad about her on her blog. The end result was that the blogger had her throat slit by the 12 year old girl. It's just not worth it to take these things so seriously.
